Honor Magic 2 presented in China
The Huawei subsidiary Honor introduced the Honor Magic 2 in China yesterday evening, which is due to be released in China on November 6th. It is striking, however, that the manufacturer also sends a German press release. Which in turn increases the likelihood that the Magic 2 may come to Europe.
Which may also correspond to the goal that Honor has set itself to become the world number 3 smartphone manufacturers. Currently, HMD Global, better known as Nokia, holds this position, but the smartphone market is fiercely competitive and vigorously on the move. So not only Apple and Samsung have to fear for their market position recently.
“Honor has set itself the goal of becoming one of the top three leading smartphone manufacturers in the world in five years. The release of the Honor Magic 2 in China is the first step”.
The upper class slider smartphone had been announced by the Chinese manufacturer at the IFA18 in Berlin, but without mentioning many details. In the slider of the Magic 2 is a 16-megapixel front camera with two supporting 2-megapixel lenses installed. Since these are not located on the front of the smartphone screen, the 6.39-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels extends to the top, without any notch.
To unlock the smartphone with face recognition, you have to manually slide the slider. If you do not feel like it, you can use the fingerprint sensor built into the screen instead. On the back, the Magic 2 also has a triple camera. This consists of a 16-megapixel sensor, which is supported by a monochrome 24-pixel sensor and a third 16-megapixel sensor. Unlike the P20 Pro from Huawei, which also has a triple camera, the third lens in the Magic 2 is not a telephoto lens, but a super wide angle. Accordingly, the main camera is a mixture of the P20 Pro and the Mate 20 Pro.
Inside the Magic 2, a Huawei-owned Kirin 980 processor with dual NPU (Neural Processing Unit, ed.) Performs. Accordingly, the smartphone can recognize scenes in the camera recording and adjust the picture options. Depending on the equipment version, the RAM is 6 or 8 GB, the internal memory is up to 128 GB or 256 GB.
The Honor Magic 2 supports LTE on the Germany and Germany important frequency bands 3 and 8, but not 20. However, it is conceivable that Honor – if the Magic 2 comes to Germany – will also offer a version with the band 20. If you buy the Honor Magic 2 through an import dealer, you have to expect that you will not get good 4 G reception everywhere in Germany.
The Magic 2 comes with Android 9.0 and the user interface Magic 2.0. This also includes a new language assistant. Whether this will also be on board in Europe is unclear. The fixed battery has a capacity of 3,500 mAh and should be able to charge fast via the power supply.
Price in China
The Magic 2 costs in China with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB memory converted 480, – Euro. With 8 GB of RAM the price rises to the equivalent of 545, – Euro. With 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of memory, the Magic 2 costs the equivalent of 610, – Euro in China. However, as already said, it is not yet clear if and when the Honor Magic 2 will come to Europe and if so, at what price.
