Apple’s contract manufacturer TSMC on the up
TSMC, the world’s largest independent contract manufacturer for semiconductor products, is expanding its supremacy in the A13 chip segment as the exclusive supplier to Apple next year. This reports the Taiwanese industry portal “DigiTimes”, citing insider insiders. TSMC has been producing A-Series chips since 2016 exclusively for Apple.
60 percent market share
TSMC, based in Hsinchu, Taiwan, has so far looked back on a successful financial year in 2018 – not least due to its 56 percent global stake in the so-called “Pure-Play Foundry Market”, which refers to the production of semiconductors for well-known computer and smartphone manufacturers. With the rumored Apple deal for manufacturing the aforementioned A-chip series next year, the company could increase its market-leading position in this area by as much as 60 percent.
The TSMC business is also doing well in the 7-nanometer chip segment. The company is expected to receive additional orders from AMD, Huawei, MediaTek, Nvidia and Qualcomm. A ramp-up of general production output for 7-nanometer processors could also lead to additional market share in 2019, it goes on to say. TSMC benefits from US semiconductor competitor Globalfoundries. He had announced to suspend the production of 7 nanometer chips indefinitely. The Taiwanese could jump in here, according to observers.
