Hands on HTC 12+
The Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer HTC today unveiled its new flagship smartphone HTC 12+. Moobilux.com already had the opportunity to take a look at the HTC 12+. The new flagship has a 6-inch screen in 18: 9 format, which works without a notch.
Inside the new HTC 12+, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 processor does its job, just like the OnePlus 6, Samsung Galaxy S9 or Sony Xperia XZ2. The octa-core processor (4 x 2.8 GHz and 4 x 1.8 GHz) has 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal memory at its side. The HTC 12+ draws its energy from a fixed 3,500 mAh lithium-ion battery, which can be recharged 50% with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3 within 30 minutes.
A special focus is on the HTC 12+ on the camera. So the manufacturer has missed the smartphone right in front and behind a dual camera. The rear main cameras of the HTC 12+ have a 12 megapixel wide-angle lens with f / 1.75 aperture and a 16 megapixel teleoptics aperture of f / 2.6 incl. Phase detection and laser autofocus. Both lenses are also an optical image stabilization to the side, which should help prevent blurred shots. The dual front camera resolves both times with 8 megapixels and has an aperture of f / 2.0. All ambitious amateur photographers should also be pleased that the HTC 12+ stores images in RAW format.
The cameras of the device master the recording of 4K videos with up to 60 / FPS. In slow motion mode you can create longer time-lapse movies in full HD at 1080p and up to 240 FPS. In addition, the dual-front camera should not be as easy to outsmart the unlock by face recognition, as is still the case for some devices today.
The case of the HTC 12+ comes in a design called “Liquid Surface”, which encloses the 6-inch screen without a Notch. The screen resolves at 2,280 x 1,440 pixels and is protected by Gorilla Glass. The dimensions are 156.6 x 73.9 x 8.7 mm (H x W x D) with a weight of 188 grams.
As with its predecessors, the new HTC 12+ also uses its own Sense technology, which allows the user to call up a special menu by pressing on the side of the screen. What’s striking about the HTC 12+ is that the device does not require a moving on / off switch and volume rocker. The corresponding keys are milled out only in the housing, but the control is done here via corresponding sensors.
The case of the smartphone is also dust and water resistant to IP68 and comes in the three colors black, black-transparent and red on the market. The premium device can operate two SIM cards simultaneously with LTE and can be expanded by a microSD card in the memory.
Price & Availability
The new HTC 12+ should be available from mid-June through the specialist retailers and well-known online retailers. The RRP of the HTC 12+ is 799, – Euro and is thus significantly lower than that of Samsung’s Galaxy S9 or Apple’s iPhone.
