Review: Brother MFC-J6930DW
Who does not know it, just when it comes to it, the printer fails its service. Unfortunately, we are not protected from it. So our HP professional color laser printer suddenly acted a few weeks ago. Reason enough to search for an alternative, which can of course also without problems directly from the Android & iOS Smartphone or tablet to be operated.
Now we have to admit that our old color laser multifunction printer has been a few years on the hump, so we decided at moobilux.com, this time to put on a professional ink printer, after all, the technology has developed there, too. In addition, tin ink printers do not have as many emissions as a laser printer, and secondly, they are often cheaper than their toner-based competitors. We have chosen a professional color inkjet multifunction printer of the Brother MFC-J6930DW type. We have written down our first experiences with the new device here for you.
A few specifications of the Brother MFC-J6930DW
- 22 ISO pages per minute in B / W (A4 pages according to ISO / IEC 24734)
- 20 ISO pages per minute in color (A4 pages according to ISO / IEC 24734)
- Two-sided printing, scanning, copying and faxing
- Supports paper in DIN A3 format when printing & scanning
- USB 2.0 Hi-Speed, 10/100 LAN (RJ45), 802.11 b / g / n (WLAN)
- Two 250-sheet paper cassette with DIN A3 support
- 50-sheet duplex ADF with dual CIS scanner (up to A3)
After the delivery of the printer we have it directly unpacked and made to the establishment, which goes quite fast from satten. The Brother MFC-J6930DW is connected to the power short with the supplied power cable and in about 7 minutes the device including WLAN network access is completed. Afterwards, the new one must of course be added to all computers and notebooks in the editorial department, which thanks to Mac OSX per device only takes 3-5 minutes with us in the editorial department.
The new MFC printer is also installed very quickly on mobile Android and iOS devices. With the iPhone and iPad, the installation will complete it in a matter of seconds, add printers, ready. A bit more complicated, because a plug-in is needed, it is with the editorial staff in the Android smartphones, but after the corresponding Brother plug-in is installed, it goes also fast here, so the MFC-J6930DW also on the Smartphone is ready for use.
First, we were surprised by the speed of the multifunction printer how fast this is. Nearly 10 seconds after the print job, we held the final printed DIN A4 page in the hands. Thus, the printing speed is quite uniform for a laser printer. It is noteworthy that the Brother MFC-J6930DW prints across DIN A4 paper and can also print A3 paper. The printed documents are thanks to pigment ink as well as to the laser printer. For the rarely used photo print, Brother recommends the use of special inkjet photo paper.
Since the new is a multi-function printer, it can also scan documents and photos as well. On the one hand via the automatic paper feed, which can hold up to a maximum of 50 pages at a time and can scan up to DIN A3. On the other hand via the large glazed scanning area, which also supports up to DIN A3.
We especially liked that the scanning not only FTP and SMB accounts, but also to online drives such as Dropbox, OneDrive u. Ä. is possible. For this purpose, one can download corresponding apps for the respective services on the multifunction device. Also the scanning speed was comparable with the “old” device, only the noise level with scanning, in particular with the paper feed, was felt louder than with the previous device.
New cartridges require new cartridges: The Brother MFC-J6930DW is available for around 550 pages and also as an XL version (LC-3219) for just under 1,500 pages per color or approximately 3,000 pages, in addition to the standard filling quantity (LC-3217) in black. Both Brother’s original and XL Original Ink cartridges are available in retail and are available as a set, ranging from 89 to 120 Euro per set. Compared to our old color laser, the sets are significantly cheaper in maintenance.
Our conclusion of the new multifunction printer Brother MFC-J6930DW is consistently positive. Even if the device due to its design, which is above all due to DIN A3 support to be owed, is quite powerful. However, the possibility of direct scanning to online drives and the lower printing costs has been particularly appealing.
